In this weeks blog post our Community Fundraiser, Victoria Johnson, is delighted to introduce you to our 2019 London Marathon runners. Could you be the last person to take a place in our London Marathon team?
In April 2019, seven supporters of Autism East Midlands will take on the Virgin Money London Marathon to raise funds and awareness of our charity. We were lucky enough to secure seven places for the marathon this year and we have some amazing people running it for us, which I would love to introduce you to.
Two of our London Marathon runners are based in Northampton. Matthew Dickerson has run the London Marathon for us before, via Autism Concern who merged with us back in January. Matthew is based in Northampton and is running the 2019 London Marathon to help raise awareness of Autism. “I have two nephews on the Autistic Spectrum so know first hand what fantastic support Autism East Midlands provides, both to them and so many others across the Midlands area”. Matthew is well into his training and is receiving lots of support from his employer, family and friends. To donate to his campaign please visit Matthew’s Just Giving Page
Teresa McCarthy is our second Northampton runner. She owns a pub in the Town centre and is counting on her punters to get behind her and her campaign. The charity is close to her heart, being a parent of an autistic child and Teresa hopes by doing the marathon that she can not only make her daughter proud but raise awareness of autism in Northamptonshire.
Our Derbsyhire runners are Emma Griffiths and Charles Clowes. Emma is running London Marathon for the first time. This will be her first marathon but she has undertaken plenty of challenges to prepare herself such as the Spartan Race in July on behalf of Autism East Midlands. Emma is running the marathon because “My son was recently diagnosed with autism and I want to help raise awareness and understanding whilst decreasing the stigma surrounding it.” To donate to her campaign, please visit Emma’s Just Giving Page
Charles is a keen runner and in his own words admits that he has “always been the type of person who needs some sort of challenge or target to work towards and having the added benefit of getting in better shape and being fit and healthy makes it a win win for everyone!” He also has a very special connection to the event, having got engaged in London in 2016, the day before the marathon. Charles is hoping to raise money mainly through the generosity of his employer and colleagues.
Charlotte Sutton and Katie Bird make up our only duo team running the marathon and are both based in Newark. Best friends Charlotte & Katie are running the marathon for as the charity is close to their hearts, due to their shared love for Charlotte’s autistic son Reuben and Katie’s autistic siblings. This is their second London marathon together, the team previously ran the marathon back in 2016 for Leonard Cheshire, We hope they enjoy it just as much this time around. To donate to their campaigns please visit Katie’s Just Giving Page & Charlotte’s Just Giving Page
That leaves us with just one place left to run for Autism East Midlands, could it be you? To apply, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for an application form.
