The Autism East Midlands official cycling kit was unveiled for the first time at the Mundy Street Day Service annual Summer Fayre at the end of July.
The Autism East Midlands cycling kit has been designed by ex-professional cyclist Darren Perry and created by Nottinghamshire cycling kit manufacturer Cadenza Velo. 43-year-old Darren lives in Nottingham (originally born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire).
Darren and his wife have supported Autism East Midlands as an organisation for many years, having a long-standing friendship with our director of play and child services Dawn Franklin. Darren’s personal connection to the charity strengthened when his son was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome in November 2016, and his family reached out for to seek family and play services that would support their son.
Darren Perry added
My wife and I contacted Autism East Midlands to see what services could be offered to him and our family. Seeing what a positive impact the charity have on children on the autism spectrum and the family support they offer, I decided to have a cycling kit made just for me to promote awareness. This has now become more popular than I could have imagined and I am very proud to be supporting such a fantastic charity.
The Autism East Midlands cycling kit consists of a long sleeve jersey, short sleeve jersey, bib shorts, and gilet priced at £45 per item. Designed as a ‘Race fit’ style (with Italian sizing) the kit is available on pre-order with estimated delivery in 3-8 weeks. Profit for each sale will be donated to Autism East Midlands. The Autism East Midlands cycling team has been officially registered and an annual cycling event / ride will be held later this year in support on the charity.
It is hoped that this exciting new cycling kit will create awareness of autism and promote Autism East Midlands whilst also generating a revenue stream for the charity from kit sales.
Attending the Autism East Midlands cycling kit launch at Mundy Street, Heanor were Darren Perry, Kareena Perry (Darren’s wife) Lewis and Harrison Perry (Darren’s sons) Ryan Bradshaw (Owner of Cadenza Velo) and Sarah Layden (Ryan’s partner)
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Darren and everyone involved for all their hard work to develop and launch the cycling kit. We look forward to seeing many cyclists, locally and further afield, proudly wearing it to support us!
