This week we are celebrating the transition of our Whitegates Residential Service to our new and exciting locations in Retford, Nottinghamshire. Our Retford Residential Services stretch across two locations, South Lodge and Iedale, which are a short walk away from each other.
Both South Lodge and Iedale Residential Services have been transformed to provide modern, relaxing and autism friendly facilities for our residents. The beautiful and picturesque surroundings provide tranquility and a sense of calmness, and a space for our residents to explore and experience the outdoors in a safe and nearby environment.
“The move is an exciting opportunity to build upon the solid foundations of Whitegates, whilst creating a new environment that is autism friendly & specific to the needs of the individuals. All Service Users have had a tailored transition to their new home, with Autism East Midlands working alongside the individuals, their families, advocates & social workers to ensure that each transition plan is suited to their own wants & needs.
“The individual flats, combined with communal areas will enable all service users to have the best of both worlds, increasing their opportunities for privacy whilst still having the benefit of areas that enable them to socialise, further building upon the solid relationships that they have formed over the years.” – Amy Broadley, Retford Service Manager at Autism East Midlands.
Take a look through our gallery for some beautiful photos of our new Retford facilities, as well as some scenic images of both surroundings. We have also included photos of our residents transitioning into their new home, choosing paint colours and selecting items for their individual spaces.
Both buildings have been renovated to provide a vibrant and contemporary feel, our service users played a major role in determining the aesthetics of both buildings. Where possible, all service users have been supported to choose their own colour schemes and furniture that is suitable to their own environments.
“The move to South Lodge & Iedale will enable individuals to have greater opportunities to achieve a range of positive outcomes, including increased independence and improved daily living skills, more involvement in managing their own day to day residency, greater opportunities for community inclusion and more scope to support individuals to achieve their aspirations.” – Amy Broadley, Retford Service Manager at Autism East Midlands.
