In June 2019 Autism East Midlands was awarded £264,857 by The National Lottery Community Fund, to help create six new Family Support Hubs in the East Midlands. We are now delighted to announce that we are opening the first of the six brand new Family Support Hubs on October 19th 2019.
The first of these new hubs will open in Leicester and be located at the Thorpe Astley Community Centre. This hub will take place once a month, and will be held on the third Saturday of every month, 10am – 1pm with the first session being held on the 19th October.
What to expect at an Autism East Midlands Family Support Hub
The Hub sessions offer a range of activities, such as arts and crafts or gaming, which autistic young people can undertake with their families and with each other. These are carefully-designed to promote social interaction and help them to develop crucial communication skills. The sessions provide opportunities for young autistic people to meet one another and develop the skills and confidence they need to build friendships and peer support networks, both within hub sessions and elsewhere. They also offer a relaxed and supportive environment in which families can enjoy quality time together, generating valuable peer support networks.
