Sadly, the Great north run has been cancelled in 2020, but we have some good news!

The organisers of the Great North Run have gone virtual and are offering some challenges which participants can take part in free of charge.

Autism East Midlands, like many charities, have been affected by the Coronavirus Crisis. Throughout the pandemic we have sought to support autistic children and adults across the region as best we can. As life returns to the ‘new normal’ we want to do more to help ease transitions and lessen anxiety levels – helping autistic people regain their confidence and thrive.

We need your help – so if you were able to dust off those running shoes, undertake this challenge, and set up a JustGiving page to support our work we would be incredibly grateful.

What is the challenge?

The official virtual Great North Run will take place on Sunday 13 September.

The organisers are working in partnership with app provider ViRACE to create an innovative virtual experience with audio clips so that participants hear the sounds of the Great North Run, providing an experience as close as possible to the real event.

The challenge mimics the race format so that all runners start their virtual Great North Run at the same time and complete the same 13.1 mile distance. Runners will be tracked throughout the virtual race and will be able to view results after the race has finished.

What do participants receive?

Participants will get free access to the race app to enjoy the official Great North Run experience.  As such, Great North Run finisher mementos will not be included with entry, however a range of Great North Run merchandise can be purchased within the entry process; this includes:

  • Official event medal.
  • T-shirt.
  • Hoodie.
  • Water bottle.
  • Phone holder.

Autism East Midlands will provide you with a complimentary running vest/T shirt once you’ve set up your Justgiving page prior to the event.

What does it cost?

It is free to enter the Great North Run virtual, although you can add Great North Run Merchandise at an additional cost.
