It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Brian Dunne, previously trustee and Vice-President of Autism Concern.

Brian was a founding member of Autism Concern (at the time Northamptonshire Autistic Society), and remained on the Board until its merger with Autism East Midlands in 2018.

At its inception, the Northamptonshire Autistic Society was a parent led group that was ground breaking; raising awareness of Autism which had not been spoken about in any depth.  As the organisation evolved, Brian helped professionalise it and turned it into the leading local charity that it became, championing the employment initiatives and helping literally thousands of families with information, advice, guidance, play schemes, training and support.

Brian was a vocal advocate of the merger with Autism East Midlands as he held the strong belief that it would secure autism services in Northamptonshire for future generations.  Once the merger had been voted through at the AGM, Brian gave the closing remarks, where he spoke movingly about what Autism Concern meant to him and his family, and his personal hopes for the future.

Brian was always first to step up and could be relied upon to help out without question or hesitation.  In many ways he was perhaps one of Northamptonshire’s unsung heroes and his legacy is seen across the county.

We are grateful to his family for allowing him to give up so much of his spare time, and our thoughts are with them at this time.
