Autism East Midlands in 2019 focused the bulk of its awareness raising activities around Autism Awareness Week; however the organisation did get involved with some awareness raising activities across the whole month of April. Here we take a look back at 2019’s awareness raising activities.

The flagship event for our autism awareness activities saw the charity continue its annual #SillySockDay. Last years inaugural event was a success but for this year we wanted to engage more organisations and wow did we get support! The Nottingham Panthers, Rolls Royce, Leicester City Football Club, De Montfort University & Avant Homes are just a very few of the masses of organisations that supported us. A full list of our #SillySockDay supporters can be found below.

Autism East Midlands Touring Workshops

Autism East Midlands covers a vast area, stretching from as far south as Northampton to as far north as Rotherham. Therefore we wanted to get out to some locations and provide the public with some free workshops and drop in sessions to help answer any questions and to raise invaluable awareness of autism. We visited Derby Quad and provided a free workshop on Autism in Women and Girls, we provided a drop in session for the people of Leicester when we visited De Montfort University, a family support drop in session was hosted in Nottingham and we gave a workshop in Rotherham around the importance of social groups amongst autistic individuals.

Rolls Royce Partnership

As part of our on-going partnership work with Rolls Royce we were on site all week providing staff with a series of drop in sessions. Allowing them to ask questions around employment support, family support, the diagnosis process and any other burning questions they wanted answering. As well as this the staff at Rolls Royce actively took part in #SillySockDay, providing us with some memorable photos of them in their socks alongside some amazing engineering parts.
