Are you practical, proactive and take pride in maintaining safe, welcoming and high-quality environments?
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Maintenance Person to join our team at Sutherland House School.
This is a real opportunity to make a difference for the children and young people that we teach. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring our school environment remains safe, well-maintained and fit for purpose whilst supporting the day-to-day operation of the site. The role combines planned maintenance, repairs, site improvement projects and contractor coordination to ensure the school continues to provide an outstanding environment for pupils and staff.
Sutherland House School is a non-maintained special school for autistic children and young people aged 3–19. The school is in the heart of the Creative Quarter in Nottingham City Centre, located near the Sneinton Avenues market area.
At Sutherland House School, Positive Behaviour Support and Person-Centred approaches are of paramount importance. We offer small class groups, high staffing ratios and excellent opportunities for training and continued professional development.
As our Maintenance Person, you will be responsible for the repair, servicing and maintenance of the school's buildings, fixtures, fittings and equipment. You will undertake a wide range of maintenance tasks, decorating projects and minor improvement works, helping to ensure that the school environment remains safe, attractive and fully operational.
You will carry out routine health and safety checks, respond to maintenance requests, monitor site conditions and support compliance with relevant health and safety requirements. The role will also involve coordinating contractors, supporting deliveries, maintaining site records and identifying areas where improvements can be made.
We are seeking a candidate with a background in property maintenance, construction, facilities management or a related trade. You will be capable of carrying out a range of maintenance and repair tasks to a high standard and have the practical skills to identify problems and implement effective solutions. A maintenance-related qualification is desirable, although relevant experience and a strong practical skillset are equally important.
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational skills, a positive and flexible approach and the ability to work independently whilst also being part of a wider team. You will understand the importance of maintaining high standards in a school environment and be committed to supporting the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff.
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
Previous experience of working within an educational setting is desirable, although not essential. Full training and support will be provided.
Visits by prior arrangement are encouraged, please contact shs.admin@aem.org.uk or the school office to arrange a visit with one of our senior leaders.
