About us

AEM is the leading autism charity across the East Midlands, supporting autistic people and their families through a range of specialist services. We are launching an exciting new social enterprise and are seeking a creative, ambitious, and proactive individual, to lead this marketing and communications activity from the ground up.

This is a unique opportunity to shape and develop the marketing function of a growing venture while helping establish a strong brand presence, engage customers and stakeholders, and drive business growth.

About the Role

As Marketing and Communications Lead, you will take ownership of all marketing and communications activity for our new social enterprise. This is a varied and hands-on role combining strategic planning with content creation and campaign delivery.

Initially, there will be significant "set-up" work as the social enterprise develops. The successful candidate will therefore need to spend time on-site across our Creswell and Ilkeston locations, building relationships, understanding the business, capturing content, and helping shape the organisation's marketing approach.

You will be responsible for developing and delivering a marketing and communications plan, managing digital platforms, creating engaging content, overseeing the website, coordinating events and campaigns, and measuring the impact of marketing activity.

The role is part-time initially and focuses solely on the social enterprise. It does not have responsibility for the wider charity's marketing activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a Marketing and Communications Plan aligned to the social enterprise's objectives.
  • Create, manage and deliver engaging content across social media platforms.
  • Lead videography projects including filming, editing, directing and production of promotional content.
  • Manage and develop the organisation's website, ensuring content remains accurate, relevant and engaging.
  • Plan and deliver integrated marketing campaigns to increase awareness, engagement and growth.
  • Coordinate marketing activity for events, launches and community engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor campaign performance and provide insight-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Build and maintain a consistent brand identity and tone of voice.
  • Identify opportunities to grow online audiences and increase engagement.
  • Produce marketing materials including digital assets, presentations, promotional literature and communications.
  • Work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to gather stories, case studies and content opportunities.
  • Ensure all communications accurately reflect the organisation's values and objectives.

About you

We're looking for someone who combines creativity with strategic thinking and is excited by the opportunity to build something new.

You will have:

  • Proven experience in a marketing, communications or digital marketing role.
  • Experience managing social media accounts and delivering successful campaigns.
  • Strong content creation skills across written, visual and video formats.
  • Experience managing and updating websites.
  • Excellent videography and editing skills, with proficiency in tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut or similar platforms.
  • Experience creating and implementing marketing or communications plans.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, audience engagement and brand development.
  • The ability to analyse performance data and use insights to improve results.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • The confidence to work independently and take ownership of a broad marketing portfolio.
  • A willingness to work on-site regularly to capture authentic content and support business development activities.

Future Opportunities

This role offers significant potential for growth.

  • There is scope for hybrid working once the initial set-up phase has been completed.
  • Subject to the success and growth of the social enterprise, there may be opportunities to increase working hours in the future.
  • While this position is offered on a two-year fixed-term basis, there is potential for the role to continue beyond this period should the marketing function demonstrate ongoing business need and growth.

What we offer

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (33 days pro rata)
  • Extensive induction programme including specialist autism training
  • Generous occupational sick pay scheme
  • Free initial DBS check
  • Employer pension scheme
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Friendly and supportive working environment
  • Excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression
  • Employee referral scheme
  • Access to counselling services
  • Access to legal and financial wellbeing support
