  • Understanding Autism Workshop

    Friday, February 2nd, 2018

    Who for: Personal assistants, families, volunteers, other professional and anyone with an interest in autism. Anyone looking for introductory training in autism who has had little experience or no formal/accredited training at this level. This course can be delivered in-house or at a venue of your choice.

    Synopsis:

    This course is for anyone wanting an introductory awareness of the autism spectrum. It provides learners with key areas of knowledge and explores important themes such as:

    • Current thinking around diagnosis and prevalence
    • Identifying individuals strengths and abilities
    • Communication and information processing
    • Recognising and supporting sensory issues
    • Understanding anxiety and intensity of focus

    The main objectives for the training are to enable people to feel and be more confident working with autistic people and provide strategies and knowledge of autism friendly adjustments that can ensure that autistic people are not limited by the people and the environment around them.

     

    Duration: Please note this is a 2 hour course

    This session is geared towards the needs of teenagers and is for young people aged 11+ and their families. There is another group ‘The Best That We Can Be’ which is for younger children and is held on the third Tuesday of each month**

    The hub takes place every 3rd Saturday of each month 11am-3pm.

  • Autism Practitioner Training Workshop

    Who for: Anyone who has an intensive contact with a person with autism or high impact on their personal outcome. This course could be delivered in-house or at a venue of your choice.

    Synopsis: This course provides an awareness of the autism spectrum condition. It provides learners with key areas of knowledge and explores important themes such as current thinking around diagnosis and prevalence, identifying individuals strengths and abilities, communication and information processing, recognising and supporting sensory issues, understanding anxiety and intensity of focus.

    Duration: 1 full day

    Cost: £50 + VAT per delegate for our in-house course or £500 + VAT for an external course (up to 20 delegates)

  • Hub at Nottingham’s Dice Cup Boardgame Café

    On Tuesday 20th February we will be hosting an additional hub at Nottingham’s Dice Cup Boardgame Café, in conjunction with our Worksop 11+ Teen Family Support Hub. We are happy to welcome families with older children (aged 11+) who might enjoy this type of environment / board games.

    Please note that parents/carers stay with their children.

    We will be meeting from 11 am to 1pm just inside the Café. The Café is a calm environment for people to choose from 100s of games and enjoy a slice of cake at the same time. The staff are extremely friendly and very happy to explain or suggest games that you may enjoy.

  • East Midlands 10k Race in Nottingham

    Support us and take part in the East Midlands 10k.

    Runners in Nottingham have the opportunity to set their pace or challenge last years’ time and compete in the East Midlands 10k run on Sunday 25th February 2018, when the event returns for its second year and proudly announces its support of Autism East Midlands, as its chosen charity partner. 

    This exciting event on the race calendar is based at the National Water Sports Centre just 10 minutes away from the City Centre of Nottingham.

    Along this flat and fast course set with minimal twists and turns, runners will take in the breathtaking views around this facility completing 2 x 5km laps of the regatta lake and alongside the canoe slalom/white water rapids which is home to some of Great Britain’s Olympic athletes.

    Suitable for athletes of all levels from elite to first time competitors, with professional bibtag timing, bespoke medals and T-shirts for all competitors.
