Our Social Autism Space for autistic adults has been making memories this year with tramway trips and adventure golf over the summer.

Our Social Autism Space has been making memories this summer with regular meet-ups across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

This included a trip to Crich Tramway museum earlier in the year, which saw some new faces join the in-person meet up for the very first time.

One of the attendees described the trip as "a very welcoming experience" and many of the attendees were eager to take a group photo to remember it by.

In June, the group also met up at Jurassic Cove Adventure Golf in Nottingham to enjoy several rounds of non-competitive minigolf.

The sun was blazing hot, and our coordinator Dan confirmed that despite coming last, even he was able to have a great time!

Online meet-ups

The group has also relaunched their online Zoom meet-ups with a new format which focuses on aspects of the autistic experience.

In June, the group considered Autistica's recent report on how to make public transport more autism-accessible and shared their experiences of what has helped them.

For example, one member of the group referenced what headphones they use to avoid sensory overload when visiting train stations, or while on crowded platforms.

July's discussion focused on employment, and the barriers that are needed to navigate the world of the workplace for autistic people. Social Enterprise Lead at Autism East Midlands Tristan Hemsley joined this discussion, to add his experience as a member of our Employment Service.
