Old Fire Station Celebrates 1st Birthday

Our Old Fire Station day service recently turned a year old, which staff and service users celebrated with a special party.
The Old Fire Station, based in the refurbished former fire station building in Worksop, is our newest day service with a history of serving Worksop as a fire station before the change.
The site's former history gives the site a unique aesthetic and lots of space for cooking, gardening and other activities.
With several kitchens, a spacious courtyard, and amples of space, the site provided a new and improved environment for our service users to engage in activities of interest to them.
With such a milestone for the service, service users and staff threw a party to celebrate the site opening one year ago - complete with party hats and balloons, of course!
How did we get here?
After months of toil and planning, and having submitted the plans for a new day service in 2023, our Old Fire Station service was ready to open and support our service users.
Staff began the process of transitioning our existing Dukeries service users to the new site, with the former Dukeries building becoming our new Training and Social Enterprise Centre.
With the needs of our service users at the forefront, this transition period lasted roughly a month, to ensure that service users could fully adapt to the change.
All service users were transitioned by July.
We received lots of support from our local community at the time, with donations made from Pronto Rugby, Musters Masonic Lodge and Sage Publications Ltd donating funds to support the new site.
The site was managed by Steph Moss who did an incredible job at supporting our staff and service users through the change, work later continued by Service Manager Claire Bright.
It was lovely to see the people we support having a good time and taking pride in our day service, which strives every day to promote independence, skill-building and positive outcomes.
We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the past year.
Whether you were there before the Old Fire Station first opened its doors or been introduced to us more recently, thank you to everyone in the local community that continues to engage with what we do and support our vision for a world that values, recognises and understands autistic people.
