On 27th February at Harvey Haddon Leisure Centre in Nottingham five students were invited to represent Sutherland House School in an inclusive indoor Handball tournament organised by Sports Nottingham.
Sports Nottingham organised an event that allowed all participating Schools to play four competitive games against other schools from Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The games were marshalled by Sports Nottingham.
Handball is a non-contact fast paced game where the team who score the most goals win the game. You are allowed three steps with the ball before passing or shooting, like Basketball. You are not allowed to score in the goalkeeper’s area or in your own half. Throw-ins are present however corners are not. The goals are of a considerable size therefore the goalkeepers have a difficult task in saving the ball. The ball can be held in one hand and is made from soft rubber type material.
The scores are as follows:
Sutherland House School 5 NUSA 5
Sutherland House School 4 Djangoly 4
Sutherland House School 1 Foxwood Academy 3
Sutherland House School 1 Arnold Hill 3
Sutherland House School’s player of the tournament scored 8 goals, scoring a hat-trick in two games – a fantastic effort and achievement. This is the first time that this group of students represented the School at a sporting event together so a massive well done at the efforts displayed, it was such a positive morning.
