On 6th December at County Hall in West Bridgford Nottingham, three students from Sutherland House School received their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. Thomas Nadin, Lewis Rust and Gabe Devenport were supported by members of their family in attending the event.

Councillor Kay Cutts presented the students with their awards in the meeting room at County Hall. The event was well attended by various groups from across the County, including: Cadets, Scouts, Youth clubs and SEN provisions. Speakers at the event included DofE Co-ordinators for Nottinghamshire, Councillors and the young people themselves who were collecting their various awards. After the presentation a buffet and drinks were made available and the students had their photos taken together.

It was a fabulous evening and great to see the students and their families celebrating together. The hard work and efforts displayed by the students over the academic year was rewarded with an occasion which was well organised and inspiring.

This was the third group from Sutherland House School to achieve a Duke of Edinburgh Award, with this group being the first Silver Award. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is highly valued by colleges and employers and is recognised nationwide. Sutherland House School will continue to support young people in accessing the award; supporting a valued qualification which provides opportunities in: confidence building, teamwork, functional and life skills and Post-19 transition.
